If your on your windows machine and you just got an iPad or iphone device and the rest of your devices is on windows, chances are you have 5GB of free iCloud storage for life.
You can go to https://www.icloud.com to sign in with your apple id, then sync and backup files as you see fit. I suggest not upgrading the 5GB to 100GB as you willl probably don't need it. There are many ways to backup your device even on windows like iTunes. It works just as well and is probably more convenient. However, when you have multiple ios devices and software restrictions, then it is a good time to consider upgrading cloud space as it is the cheapest cloud service money can buy at the moment. To compare with google's cloud drive for 100GB is around 25% to 50% more expensive on maximum savings. Also, if you have a family member using another IOS device or devices, you can start a sharing 250GB plan for $3.99 CAD, which is a good bang for your buck.
I think once you upgraded, you can downgrade at anytime which is good. I currently have my ipad backuped on iCloud, and it takes around 4.3GB, which leaves 0.7GB room for photos and such. Apple is following google in a sense that photos and videos can be uploaded free of charge at a lower quality setting. This is great news for everyone but be sure you are willing to let any hacker see your photos before uploading or else delete sensitive photos. I suggest you check iCloud website, if you have been using an ios device but don't know about this service, which I am sure most of you do.
Happy Appling, Nom Nom Nom....
