The ocean cleanup project study reported concentrations of 59 types of PBTs in ocean plastics collected at the center of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Persistent Bio-accumulative Toxic chemicals (PBTs) are "Bio-accumulative” meaning that these pollutants can amass in the body of organisms, up to a level that can become detrimental to them and to the health of entire food webs.

Stop using plastic is key as well as the Ocean-cleanup initiative. The first operational cleanup system to be deployed in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch by mid-2018. For more information go to https://www.theoceancleanup.com/
